DURHAM COTTAGE

A LOVER'S NEST:

Soon after Vivien packed her things and left Leigh Holman, Larry bought a place for them in Chelsea near Burton Court and the Chelsea hospital called Durham Cottage at 4 Christchurch Street. It was considered a modest seventeenth-century house that had a charming walled garden. When the couple moved into the small abode, Vivien immediately began working on A Yank at Oxford and Larry began working on Divorce of Lady X. Their living arrangement raised a few eyebrows.

When World War II broke out, Durham Cottage was damaged during one of the blasts. Vivien immediately had it fixed and put things back in order. Throughout their marriage, the couple often visited their originial love nest.

INTERESTING FACT:

Their oversized bed at Durham had cupids painted on the headboard.
